About The Position

Mastronardi Produce is a leading greenhouse vegetable company in North America, known for its award-winning SUNSET® brand. They are seeking a Data Analytics Engineer for their head office in Kingsville, ON. This role is crucial for translating ambiguous business needs into clear requirements for Data Engineering and report development teams. The position involves analyzing current business processes and IT solutions to understand how they work and how they should be modeled in the One Data Platform (ODP). The ideal candidate is a self-starter, curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and skilled at building relationships to uncover real requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • Very strong SQL and data analysis skills, including the data manipulation needed to generate correct results and inform how data should be modeled into or out of ODP.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated success building relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A self-starter mindset with strong intellectual curiosity, comfortable operating with ambiguity and driving clarity when the business itself doesn’t know what it wants.
  • Experience gathering requirements from business stakeholders and reverse-engineering existing reports, spreadsheets, or systems to understand current-state logic.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify, scope, and help resolve data issues — often before the business notices them.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data modeling, including dimensional (star schema) design.
  • Experience building Power BI semantic models and reports, useful for prototyping or validating a proposed solution.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or a similar modern data platform.
  • Experience using AI assistants and LLM-based tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate analysis work — writing and reviewing SQL, profiling and reverse-engineering data and existing solutions, and drafting requirements and documentation — while retaining full ownership of the correctness and quality of the results.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to uncover true requirements and translate them into clear, actionable requirements and tasks for Data Engineering and BI teams.
  • Analyze and reverse-engineer current business processes and existing IT/reporting solutions to understand current-state logic before scoping the ODP solution.
  • Perform hands-on data analysis and manipulation to validate assumptions, generate correct results, and determine how data should be modeled into or out of ODP.
  • Define the scope and shape of solutions to be built in ODP, and hand off clear, well-defined requirements to Data Engineers and BI/report developers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the business, IT, and the EDM team.
  • Proactively identify data and solution issues before the business surfaces them, through ongoing data validation and review.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data issues, partnering with Data Engineering when root causes sit upstream in pipelines or source systems.
  • Partner with the business throughout build and rollout to ensure the delivered solution meets or exceeds requirements and is fully adopted.
  • Interact heavily with technical and non-technical business stakeholders, power users, other IT teams, and the EDM team throughout the analysis-to-delivery lifecycle.

Benefits

  • Accommodation processes and policies in place for employees with disabilities.
  • Specific accommodation for disabilities or documented medical needs can be arranged through the Human Resource office.
