About The Position

The Data Analyst supports the data and evaluation related functions of the agency. The Analyst is involved in many different aspects of performance improvement and program evaluation, including creating interactive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations, manipulating and deriving insights from datasets, producing summary reports for stakeholders, and engaging with agency leaders and staff to promote and facilitate the effective use of data to improve services. The person in this role assists with the management and completion of projects and consults with program staff and management. Tasks may involve individual or independent work as well as significant collaboration with other team members and Seneca staff. This position offers a remote work model with some need for occasional (a few times a year) travel to the San Francisco Bay Area paid for by Seneca.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree OR Associate degree + 1 year of applicable experience OR High school diploma + 2 years of applicable experience. Applicable experience includes work experience in data/business analytics, manipulation, and visualization.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.

  • Writing SQL queries against relational databases, transforming and modeling data using Power Query, building interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI with DAX and data extraction/pivot tables in Excel.
  • Applying basic statistical concepts and data visualization best practices in presenting data to different audiences
  • Modeling/structuring data for reporting purposes and/or navigating data warehouse or relational database structures
  • Planning and managing complex projects, communicating across multiple stakeholders, and meeting deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and conducting surveys and deriving insights from survey response data.
  • Experience with Git review workflows.
  • Experience and/or education in one or more of the following: Data and business analytics, Performance improvement/continuous quality improvement methods, Data visualization, Program evaluation, Public health, data science, information science, math, mental health, social work, or other field(s) related to Seneca’s work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop interactive data reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI and Excel based on user requirements (30%)
  • Manipulate and extract meaning from complex datasets, including development and implementation of automated Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) functions in Power BI as well as use of Excel spreadsheets and Pivot Tables and writing SQL queries/views to extract and manipulate data from relational databases (30%)
  • Advise and consult with program leaders and staff on matters related to program evaluation, data collection and reporting, and performance improvement efforts (15%)
  • Participate in intra- and inter-departmental meetings and represent Data team on relevant agency committees and workgroups (15%)
  • Actively contribute to team knowledge-sharing through peer review, collaborative problem-solving, and a positive, supportive team culture (10%)
  • Engage in individual and collaborative work to advance team values related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Manage and coordinate complex, time-sensitive projects with many different stakeholders
