About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is a data and technology innovation hub and a Benefit Corporation working at the center of the federal government's mission. They are looking for highly motivated contributors who thrive when trusted to own a hard problem and equipped to deliver the solution. Your first assignment will likely include turning a federal program's operational data into numbers people can trust by defining measures, writing SQL to create analytical datasets, building recurring reports and dashboards, tracing discrepancies, and replacing manual reporting with repeatable workflows. Adaptability and a demonstrated capacity to learn new concepts, systems, and tools are essential as projects complete and priorities shift. The work is real, hard, and it matters. Peregrine hires people, not seats, and moves their best to where the hardest problems are.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.
  • 3+ years of data analysis experience
  • Strong working command of SQL
  • Experience building reports and dashboards in a business intelligence tool (Power BI, Tableau, or comparable)
  • Familiarity with scripting for analysis (Python or R)
  • Ability to own an analysis from question through delivered, documented answer
  • Precise with numbers and suspicious of unexplained ones.
  • Ability to move easily between a stakeholder's question and the data that can answer it.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Adaptability across roles and clients.
  • Care about creating public value.
  • Experimentation, learning, and quick repetition.
  • Desire to own an outcome rather than be handed a task.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud data platforms on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Federal program, financial, or performance data experience
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer and analysis tooling

Responsibilities

  • Defining measures with the people who own the process, and writing down the business rules behind every number.
  • Writing SQL that turns platform data on Amazon Aurora and related AWS data stores into clean, reconciled analytical datasets.
  • Building recurring reports and dashboards a program actually uses, with documented measures, refresh schedules, and access controls.
  • Tracing discrepancies to their source: definitions, timing, filters, and source systems, until the number is explained.
  • Replacing manual reporting with repeatable, tested workflows.
  • Building the numbers a federal program runs on, with the provenance to prove where each one came from.
  • Creating clean analytical datasets that reconcile source fields, business definitions, and calculation logic.
  • Developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that answer questions, load fast, and never mislead.
  • Producing quality evidence behind reporting: validation checks, reconciliation reports, and issue logs.
  • Implementing AI-assisted analysis as standard practice, using coding assistants and language models.
  • Helping to spin up new capabilities, tools, and lines of business.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision with the employee premium fully paid and half of dependent premiums
  • Employer-paid life, accidental death, and short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • A 401(k) matched 100% up to 4% of salary, vesting immediately
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Sponsored professional certifications and continuing education
