Asset Management - Data Analyst, Private Markets Data Products (Vice President)

JPMorgan Chase & Co.•New York, NY
•$133,000 - $215,000

About The Position

As a Data Analyst on the Asset Management Private Markets Data Products team, you will serve as the Alternatives data subject-matter expert for the Private Markets domain. You will help build the Private Markets data model and its semantic layer, standardizing definitions and making data consistently usable by people and AI. The primary focus is expanding Alternatives datasets with business-critical attributes that support core business processes and downstream consumption. The role enables client and investor reporting, oversees business-as-usual data issues and data quality, helps scale the platform, and ensures accurate delivery to appropriate Systems of Record (SORs). It is a hands-on analytical role requiring sustained collaboration with internal and external partners to understand their businesses, the data they produce, and how consumers need to use it. The position partners with engineering, architecture, the Chief Data Office, business and operations teams, and external data providers. It involves defining data models and semantic standards; onboarding and validating feeds; translating reporting and business needs into data requirements; investigating and resolving data-quality issues; supporting SOR migrations; and maintaining domain documentation. The work also includes identifying reusable platform patterns and providing evidence to inform prioritization, roadmaps, and design decisions.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data-focused roles such as data analysis, data management, data operations, or business and data product analysis within financial services or a comparably complex data environment.
  • Deep practical knowledge of private markets or alternatives data and the businesses that produce it; an exceptional data analyst from an adjacent domain may be considered if able to demonstrate rapid, thorough learning of a new business.
  • Experience serving as the primary data expert for a business area or dataset, including owning definitions and documentation and answering partner-team questions.
  • Strong hands-on analytical skills, including profiling, reconciling, and investigating data using SQL or equivalent query and analysis tooling.
  • Experience translating business needs into unambiguous data requirements, attributes, definitions, models, and mapping specifications for engineers.
  • Demonstrated rigor and ownership in data quality, including driving issues to root cause and resolution across teams.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to document definitions and decisions clearly.
  • Ability to collaborate across business, operations, technology, and external partners, moving between detailed data work and senior stakeholder discussions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and greenfield work, and ability to establish structure where no model, dictionary, or precedent exists.

Nice To Haves

  • Subject-matter expertise in private markets data such as capital calls and distributions, waterfalls and carried interest, NAV and performance, commitments and unfunded capital, investor, fund and entity structures, and deal and portfolio company data.
  • Experience supporting Real Estate, Infrastructure, Private Credit, Private Equity, or Alternative Solutions businesses.
  • Advanced SQL, Python, cloud data platforms such as AWS and Snowflake, transformation tooling, and data catalog or lineage solutions.
  • Aptitude for AI tooling, particularly applied to data modeling and reusable skills and agents, and readiness to adopt innovative tools for deliverables and strategic projects.
  • Experience building or contributing to a semantic layer, metrics store, or business glossary for BI, self-service analytics, or AI consumption.
  • Experience with fund administrator, general partner, custodian, or vendor data feeds and related reconciliation and validation.
  • Experience supporting client or investor reporting within an asset manager.
  • Familiarity with data governance, including data ownership, reference data and MDM, metadata, data contracts, and controls.
  • Aptitude with agile collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA, and experience working alongside a product owner and engineering squad.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience; diverse academic backgrounds are welcome. CFA, CAIA, or a similar credential is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Alternatives data subject-matter expert and reference point for data definitions, origins, behavior, and appropriate use.
  • Build the Private Markets data model with engineering and architecture partners, defining entities, attributes, relationships, grain, and lineage, including new datasets where needed.
  • Develop and maintain the semantic layer, including standardized business definitions, derived metrics, and consistent vocabularies for use by people, BI tools, and AI agents.
  • Expand Alternatives datasets with business-critical attributes, prioritizing coverage according to the business processes and downstream consumption they support.
  • Partner with engineering in an agile framework to shape epics and stories in JIRA, write and review data requirements and mapping specifications, answer domain questions during development, and participate in UAT and control testing.
  • Connect vendors, fund administrators, custodians, general partners, and other external sources to the platform through repeatable feed onboarding; interpret and validate data and resolve discrepancies at source.
  • Work with the Chief Data Office to align the domain with firmwide and Asset Management data governance and strategy principles, including ownership, classification, quality standards, documentation, and enterprise data priorities.
  • Enable client, investor, and management reporting by translating reporting needs into data requirements, sourcing attributes, and validating outputs against expected results.
  • Own business-as-usual data issue management and data quality by triaging issues, finding root causes, defining and monitoring rules and thresholds, driving remediation, and identifying recurring themes for structural fixes.
  • Ensure accurate and complete data delivery to the appropriate Systems of Record and support migration from legacy sources to strategic SORs, including mapping, reconciliation, and cutover validation.
  • Profile and analyze data to test hypotheses, measure gaps, and quantify impact to inform prioritization, roadmap, and design decisions.
  • Maintain data dictionaries, business glossary entries, data-quality rules, lineage, catalog entries, and metadata documentation.
  • Identify reusable patterns and standards that help scale the platform as additional businesses, asset classes, and datasets are onboarded.
