About The Position

Hampton Proton is seeking a Data Analyst Intern to contribute to a project focused on the comparative analysis of patient cycle time from consultation to treatment start date. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to work within a leading proton therapy facility and contribute to improving patient care processes. The intern will be responsible for selecting patient data, extracting key dates, calculating working days between different stages of treatment, determining average patient cycle times, and providing a summary of findings and recommendations. At the conclusion of the internship, the student intern will be required to create and present a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation summarizing their experience, including their academic background, post-graduation plans, key learnings, completed tasks, developed skills, identified strengths and weaknesses, aspects of the internship they enjoyed most, and suggestions for future interns. Upon completion, interns will receive an evaluation from their mentor/supervisor.

Requirements

  • Proof of being currently enrolled in a program of study or a recent graduate (within 12 months) from an accredited college/university or technical/vocational institution.
  • Proof of good academic standing (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
  • Proof of academic class schedule.
  • Recent resume and/or cover letter.
  • Applicable course syllabus if academic credit will be applied from your educational institution.

Responsibilities

  • Select 30 patients from the first quarter of the prior year and 30 patients from the first quarter of the current year who have simple prostate cases.
  • List the initial consultation date, simulation date, and first date of treatment for each selected patient using their chart.
  • Calculate the number of working days between consultation, simulation, and the first date of treatment.
  • Determine and compare the average patient cycle time for the first quarter of the prior year versus the first quarter of the current year.
  • Provide a full summary of analytical findings and recommendations to increase patient cycle time.
  • Create and present a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation summarizing the internship experience, including academic background, post-graduation plans, learnings, completed tasks, developed skills, professional strengths and weaknesses, enjoyable aspects, and suggestions for future interns.
