The Internal Audit Technology & Data Intern will support the department’s automation, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and broader risk technology initiatives. This role is intended for a student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field. The intern will work collaboratively with Internal Audit’s data engineers, automation professionals, and senior auditors to help design and develop technology solutions that improve how the department accesses data, analyzes risk, and delivers assurance. The intern will not be responsible for performing audits but may assist with the design and implementation of data analytics used within audit engagements.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of programming or scripting concepts, such as Python, SQL, JavaScript, or a comparable language.
• Basic understanding of data analytics, data preparation, databases, or data visualization.
• Familiarity with Microsoft technologies, such as Excel, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, Azure, Microsoft Fabric, or Microsoft Copilot.
• Interest in automation, artificial intelligence, data engineering, analytics, risk management, or internal audit technology.
• Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and receive guidance from both technical and business professionals.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, well-documented work.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and communicate progress, questions, and potential challenges.
• Currently enrolled in a degree seeking program.
• Will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

Nice To Haves

• Experience through coursework, personal projects, internships, or student organizations involving software development, data analytics, artificial intelligence, or data engineering.
• Exposure to Python, SQL, APIs, relational databases, Git/GitHub, or application development.
• Experience developing dashboards or visualizations using Power BI or similar tools.
• Familiarity with data cleaning, validation, transformation, or basic data modeling.
• Interest in applying technology and analytics to business processes, risk management, compliance, or assurance activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying, designing, developing, testing, and documenting automation and analytics use cases for Internal Audit.
• Support the department’s data-enablement journey by helping prepare, organize, transform, and validate data from multiple sources.
• Assist with the development of scripts, applications, dashboards, reports, and other technology solutions that improve audit efficiency and risk visibility.
• Support the exploration and responsible use of artificial intelligence within Internal Audit processes.
• Participate in the design and implementation of data analytics used within audit engagements under the supervision of data engineers and senior auditors.
• Help translate business and risk-related needs into practical technical solutions.
• Assist with maintaining technical documentation, user instructions, data definitions, and development standards.
• Test automation solutions and analytics for accuracy, completeness, usability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with Internal Audit team members and other business or technology stakeholders.
• Perform research and support other automation, data, technology, and risk-related initiatives as assigned.
