Data Acquisition Engineer

Parcell•Atlanta, GA
•Hybrid

About The Position

Parcell is a site-selection and scoring platform for affordable housing developers using the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. The platform uses AI to help developers identify sites, optimize scoring, and make decisions more quickly. Parcell is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and has a remote team. The Data Acquisition Engineer investigates difficult data sources, including municipal portals, and creates useful datasets when suitable off-the-shelf data is unavailable. The role takes work from investigation and prototyping through production, in collaboration with operations and colleagues bringing new states onto the platform. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Requirements

  • Enjoy investigating unfamiliar portals and hard-to-find datasets.
  • Follow clues, test ideas, and find practical approaches to problems without a predefined answer.
  • Enjoy turning discoveries into working software and have owned production systems from idea through release.
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills and thoughtful data modeling for platform use.
  • Ability to read and review TypeScript, identify issues, and verify code against its intended design.
  • Experience working with AI agents as part of a development team, directing their work and owning technical decisions.
  • Understand spatial data or be eager to learn PostGIS, with the technical foundation to do so.

Nice To Haves

  • Web scraping, difficult public-data acquisition, or experience inspecting undocumented APIs and network traffic.
  • PostGIS experience and familiarity with government, municipal, or open-data sources.
  • Startup or small-team experience with broad ownership of production systems.
  • Experience validating messy data when accuracy, completeness, and methodology cannot be assumed.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with operations and colleagues bringing new states onto Parcell to understand data needs and address challenges.
  • Find difficult data sources and combine or reconstruct information into datasets the platform can use.
  • Explore ideas through prototypes and turn promising approaches into production software.
  • Design data models that make new information useful within Parcell’s platform.
  • Build repeatable processes for acquiring and refreshing data as sources change.
  • Validate results and work with operations to make each solution reliable to run.

Benefits

  • High ownership of problems from initial investigation through production.
  • Work that directly influences where affordable housing gets built.
  • Opportunity to shape how problems are solved on a small, pragmatic team.
  • Opportunity to join as an early engineer and help shape the product and how the team builds it.
  • Work directly with the founders at a small, profitable startup.
