About The Position

The Dangerous Goods Program Director serves as the enterprise authority for Alaska Airlines' Dangerous Goods (DG) compliance program. As a strategic individual contributor, this role establishes the long-term vision, regulatory strategy, and governance framework for the DG program, ensuring enterprise-wide compliance with domestic and international regulations while enabling operational efficiency. The Director influences industry standards, drives innovative compliance solutions, and provides expert counsel to senior leaders on regulatory risk, program performance, and emerging requirements.

Requirements

• 10 years of experience in Dangerous Goods.
• Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
• Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting to executive leadership and translating complex concepts into clear, actionable information for audiences at all levels of the organization.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and key external business partners.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

• 5 years of experience with International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR).
• hazardous materials regulations and applications.

Responsibilities

• Owns the strategic direction, governance, and continuous evolution of Alaska Airlines' FAA-approved Dangerous (DG) Goods program.
• Develops and executes a multi-year regulatory compliance strategy, anticipating emerging risks, regulatory changes, and operational impacts.
• Serves as the company's principal DG authority and primary representative to the U.S. and international regulatory agencies.
• Leads the design and implementation of solutions that drive regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness, and business objectives.
• Participates in industry organizations influencing changes to regulations that result in positive outcomes for the airline.
• Influences industry policy and regulatory frameworks through leadership and participation in aviation and DG industry organizations.
• Advises senior and executive leaders on the program’s long-term goals, regulatory strategy, compliance risks, program performance, and organizational impacts, while providing regular updates and strategic guidance to support informed decision-making.
• Provides expert consultation to stakeholders across Safety, Airport Operations and Customer Service (AOCS), Cargo, Maintenance and Engineering (M&E), Flight Operations, Inflight, and other business units to ensure consistent and compliant practices.
