About The Position

Commonpoint is seeking a Dance Instructor to join the Health & Wellness Department. This role is crucial in providing youth dance classes to the local community. The Dance Instructor will teach dance skills and techniques, including ballet, zumba, and jazz, to children aged 4-12. Responsibilities include assessing dancer skills, creating a fun and nurturing environment, lesson planning, maintaining supervision and care of dancers, communicating class concerns to the Senior Director, and representing Commonpoint Queens positively. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of the Health & Wellness Department. Seasonal and part-time staff are vital to supporting daily operations, program delivery, and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching ballet and other dance styles.
  • Positive classroom management skills.
  • Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational, stress, and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with administration, parents, and dancers.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Dance background.
  • BFA in Dance.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Teach dance skills and techniques, including ballet, zumba, and jazz.
  • Assess dancer's skills and abilities.
  • Create a fun and nurturing environment with hands-on-learning.
  • Develop lesson plans for children aged 4-12 years old.
  • Maintain supervision and care of each dancer in the dance program.
  • Communicate class concerns to the Senior Director.
  • Represent Commonpoint Queens in a positive light.
  • Create choreography.
  • Manage cleanliness of the dance studio.
  • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently.
  • Use agency resources responsibly.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-department teams.
  • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
