About The Position

Our team is seeking dance instructors to teach evening and weekend classes for participants ages 3 and up. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering City of Mississauga Instructional Dance Programs to meet the needs of participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating the activity. We are hiring Dance Instructors to teach both children and adults in the following genres: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Drama. Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age or older at the start of employment
  • Minimum 1 year experience teaching dance
  • Must be confident teaching various age groups and skill levels.
  • Must hold by employment start date: A valid and current Basic First Aid or Emergency First Aid with CPR C & AED from a recognized WSIB-provider at the employee’s expense.
  • Must hold by employment start date: HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification at the employee's own expense.
  • Must be able to perform physical exercises while instructing
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends at locations throughout the City of Mississauga.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dance instruction for participants in specific styles of dance as outlined by the program outline.
  • Prepare and deliver lesson plans in the performing arts in a manner appropriate to the audience.
  • Work with groups of up to 15 participants.
  • Support the objectives and philosophies of performing arts programs as established by the Recreation and Culture Division through quality instruction and excellent customer and staff relations.
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner in writing or voicemail with the Program Supervisor all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of the program.
  • Complete facility program safety checks before each program starts and report any concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of all registered participants throughout the program.
  • Policy and procedure adherence and provide quality customer service and information to participants and other staff.
  • Advise Program Supervisor of any difficulties with participants regarding behaviour, registration, class lists, program content or any other related issues.
  • Monitor participant progress on an on-going basis.
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
  • Promote program and provide information for progression in the dance program.
  • Complete report cards and certificates for the participants of the program.
  • Prepare detailed lessons plans to ensure classes are meeting requirements outlined in program syllabus.
  • Prepare choreography for end of session showcase to highlight achievements of the participants.
  • Find and prepare music that is appropriate for the program and matches technical exercises used in class.
