About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Dance Coordinator, plan and execute dance technique classes. This role requires the ability to work with ages six months to adult and instruct ballet, modern, jazz, and tap classes in accordance with standard curriculum. The instructor must possess knowledge of basic dance terminology, dance history, current dance trends, classroom etiquette, physical safety, and proper guidance with movement execution. Key responsibilities include attending all classes, rehearsals, recitals, and staff meetings, completing student progress reports bi-annually, and managing all recital-related forms and duties. The instructor must also attend staff educational functions and perform their job safely in compliance with district policies and procedures, being familiar with the safe operation of any necessary equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with ages six months to adult.
  • Ability to instruct ballet, modern, jazz, tap classes in accordance with standard curriculum.
  • Knowledge of basic dance terminology, dance history, current dance trends, classroom etiquette, physical safety and proper guidance with movement execution.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students and parents.
  • Ten to fifteen years extensive dance training/experience.
  • Communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow direction and apply constructive criticism.
  • Willingness to learn and be a team player.
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and/or Dance Teaching Certifications.
  • Five or more years teaching experience.
  • Professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute dance technique classes.
  • Instruct ballet, modern, jazz, and tap classes in accordance with standard curriculum.
  • Attend all classes, rehearsals, recitals, and staff meetings.
  • Complete student progress reports bi-annually.
  • Complete all recital request forms (i.e. lighting, evaluations, music, costumes, etc.).
  • Attend staff educational functions.
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
  • Choreograph and teach recital dances.
  • Submit recital costumes, music, props, etc., for approval to the Dance Coordinator.
  • Complete all clerical duties involved with recital processes.
  • Dress in all black pants (jazz, yoga, exercise, sport) and wear Pavilion Dance Centre shirt for instruction of dance classes.
