About The Position

We are currently seeking an experienced Damage Prevention technician to join our Wheatland Area Operations teams based in Airdrie, AB. Reporting to the Area Manager, Wheatland NGTL Area, the Damage Prevention technician will be responsible for the completion of proactive pipeline damage prevention activities as well as a variety of operations and maintenance tasks at compressor stations, meter stations and pipeline systems across the areas’ natural gas transmission system.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Oil and gas operating experience
  • 3+ years total related experience
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s licence and provide a driver’s abstract (record) for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training (estimated up to 50% of work schedule)
  • Participate in an on-call schedule
  • Work in conditions that include adverse weather and temperatures
  • All applicants must have legal authorization to work in the country where the position is based, without restrictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with line locating
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience related to pipelines
  • Experience with valve and valve operator operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting
  • Experience operating and maintaining high-pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities
  • SAP experience

Responsibilities

  • Locate pipelines in accordance with TC Energy operating procedures using industry standard locating equipment
  • Respond to gas leak surveys as reported by aerial patrols
  • Read and interpret alignment sheets
  • Assist with all types of line crossings of TC Energy pipeline assets
  • Identify encroachment issues, report and manage unauthorized activities
  • Communicate and provide damage prevention education to contractors, the general public, landowners, and government agencies relative to gas operations
  • Assist with general pipeline right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities such as erosion or sinkhole repairs, line patrols, and installation of identification signs and posts
  • Provide on-call support to the region
  • Act as a Permitting Authority as it pertains to TC Energy’s Control of Work Processes
  • Support inspections, troubleshooting, and repair on equipment such as actuators, valves, stem seals, and other related components
