About The Position

Our Canada Gas Operations group is seeking an experienced Damage Prevention Technician to join our Southern Ontario and Quebec Pipeline team, based in Mascouche, QC. Damage Prevention Technicians play a key role in protecting our natural gas pipeline, valves and associated assets in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Pipeline Manager / Directeur, Southern Ontario and Quebec, this position will provide oversight for and execute our organization’s damage prevention program, as well as provide support to pipeline operations. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving and communication skills. The role is overtime eligible and will be part of an on-call rotating schedule in which you will be subject to call-out for emergency response. The regular work schedule will be: Week 1: Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is an 8-hour day Week 2: Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is a Regular Day Off (RDO)

Requirements

  • Minimum completion of third year of trades program or two years of technical training from a recognized institution
  • 2 years relevant damage prevention experience
  • Experience with utility locating equipment
  • Proven encroachment, corrosion and crossings knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Excellent work safety record and a safe work attitude
  • Proficient communication and problem-solving skills when working with the public and third-party stakeholders
  • Fluent in both English and French

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Utilisphere, InfoEx and Geofind Software
  • 5 years relevant work experience related to Pipelines or other related infrastructure
  • Experience operating and maintaining high pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or SAP experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform InfoEx line locates
  • Perform gas leak surveys as reported by aerial patrols
  • Interface with landowners and members of the public to promote public safety and protect our pipeline
  • Complete preventative and corrective maintenance PMs/CMs as required and close out work orders.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new notifications, etc. in SAP
  • Operate and maintain natural gas pipelines and associated equipment
  • Read and interpret alignment sheets
  • Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low complexity projects to include the coordination and monitoring of contractor work activities or third-party active control
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to other personnel
  • Assist with all types of line crossings (foreign or seismic) of TC Energy pipeline assets
  • Complete basic “as built” prints and update related documentation with respect to One Call and pipeline related schematics
  • Identify encroachment issues, report and manage unauthorized activities
  • Communicate and provide damage prevention education to contractors, the public, landowners, and government agencies related to gas operations
  • Assist with general pipeline right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities such as erosion or sink hole repairs, line patrols, and installation of identification signs and posts
  • Provide on call support to the region
  • Provide support as necessary to the operation of transfer compressors for pipeline pull downs
  • Assist with various tasks associated with in-line inspection programs
  • Perform tasks from other disciplines
