About The Position

JULIE, Inc. provides excavators and underground utility owners with a continuously improving, one-call message handling and delivery service to protecting underground utilities and the safety of people working or living near them. Located in Joliet, Illinois, JULIE, Inc. espouses quality, affordability, customer service and a conducive work environment. (JULIE: Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators.) JULIE, Inc. has an opening for a full time, Damage Prevention Manager (DPM). The position has numerous responsibilities that includes supporting the education focus of JULIE's mission related to protecting underground infrastructure and promoting safe excavation practices throughout Illinois; this position will cover territory in the southern part of the state. Also functions to implement public relations and educational outreach campaigns to the excavating community, members and the general public. The DPM will coordinate and promote the use and growth of JULIE, Inc. between non-member and member utilities, facility owners/operators and excavators throughout the state. In addition, the DPM educates and promotes the use of JULIE, Inc. services to the general public and be a front-line customer service ambassador of JULIE while serving as a subject matter expert. This role is a hybrid scheduling arrangement with weekly opportunities to work remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years practical experience in construction, utility, damage prevention or related field required.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Illinois Underground Utility Facilities Damage Prevention Act, also known as the JULIE Law.
  • Strong presentation abilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite is required.
  • Strong communication skills and be able to speak to others at all levels in an organization.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of utility plans, maps, GPS/GIS and associated computer applications.
  • Must be able to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Extensive travel including overnight will be required, which may involve evenings and weekends.
  • A valid drivers license will be required for this role.
  • Familiarity with managing and setting up audio and visual equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with utility members, excavators, contractors, municipalities, locators, and other industry stakeholders while serving as a trusted resource for JULIE processes.
  • Maintain regular contact with all appropriate stakeholder groups in order to coordinate activities and mediate disputes.
  • Respond on a timely basis to questions, complaints and other inquiries from the JULIE Call Center, when requested.
  • Educate stakeholders on the responsibilities under the JULIE Law.
  • Conduct safety presentations in small and large group settings.
  • Plan, coordinate and represent JULIE at conferences, conventions, trade shows, fairs and meetings to inform all appropriate stakeholder groups about the operation, purpose and effectiveness of JULIE.
  • Conduct internal and external training sessions and projects, such as Remote Ticket Entry process; changes to the JULIE Law and internal procedural changes.
  • Develop strong working relationships with members of the Illinois Commerce Commission One Call Enforcement, or ICC.
  • Set up and conduct ICC One Call Enforcement Mandatory Safety Training, as needed.
  • Assist with potential members, including help with membership application process, coordination with other JULIE departments and appropriate follow-up, as needed.
  • Develop, implement, oversee and assist with special events and strategic partnership activities, as requested by the Sr. Director of Marketing and External Relations.
  • Conduct ongoing outreach, including one-on-one and group visits, with members to discuss new policies and services.
  • Communicate with team members on regular basis to provide optimal customer service.
