About The Position

Join the Sentry Team! Sentry is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Renewable Energy Operator to oversee the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of anaerobic digester systems at large dairy operations. This position plays a critical role in renewable energy production by ensuring equipment reliability, maximizing biogas production, and maintaining environmental compliance. The Renewable Energy Operator will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of digester equipment and biological processes, performing preventative maintenance, responding to system alarms, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining detailed operational records. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and technical skills, be comfortable working independently, and have a desire to learn and grow within the renewable energy industry. We are willing to train individuals who have the right attitude, work ethic, and commitment to safety.

Requirements

  • Live or reside within 1 hour of the assigned facility.
  • Mechanical, electrical, agricultural, industrial maintenance, or wastewater treatment experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize monitoring software.
  • Strong communication and recordkeeping skills.
  • Knowledge of pumps, motors, VFDs, valves, instrumentation, and control systems preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment and process-related issues.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime and participate in an on-call schedule.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when necessary.
  • Ability to climb ladders, platforms, and work at heights.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical maintenance: 1 year
  • Agricultural, industrial, wastewater, or renewable energy operations experience
  • Experience with pumps, motors, controls, or process equipment

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate anaerobic digester systems and related equipment.
  • Track system performance including temperatures, pressures, gas production, feedstock volumes, and equipment status.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, mixers, valves, separators, and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and operational issues.
  • Respond to alarms and equipment failures in a timely manner.
  • Collect samples and monitor biological process performance.
  • Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and compliance records.
  • Coordinate with service technicians, contractors, and farm personnel as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and emergency response activities when required.
  • Assist with startup, shutdown, and optimization of digester processes.
