About The Position

The Dairy General Laborer supports daily milk production operations by performing a variety of hands-on tasks to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient dairy processing. This position is responsible for moving milk, maintaining and cleaning equipment, and supporting packaging and storage activities. Teamwork is essential as every member of the dairy team plays a part in delivering Wright’s fresh, high-quality dairy products to our customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in dairy, warehouse, food production, or manufacturing environments is a plus but not required.
  • Availability to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts, including early mornings and occasional nights depending on business needs.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 60+ pounds and push/pull milk wagons weighing 200–700 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be comfortable working in cold, wet, and noisy conditions (typically 35°F–60°F).
  • Available to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and occasional nights as needed.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic are essential.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and climb for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
  • Frequently required to lift, carry, push, and pull milk containers (up to 60 lbs.) and milk wagons (200–700 lbs.) using a hand truck or dolly.
  • Occasionally required to maneuver items over 100 pounds with assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, and pinching with both hands to operate valves, handle packaging materials, and clean equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and visual acuity (close, distance, color, and depth perception).
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pressurized systems, cleaning chemicals, and loud noise levels.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, rubber boots, aprons/smocks, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Safety and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) is required at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Move, handle, and restock milk containers, crates, and wagons safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in packaging, labeling, dating, and capping milk and other dairy products.
  • Monitor equipment operation and report any irregularities or safety concerns.
  • Set up, clean, and operate dairy production and packaging equipment.
  • Perform basic adjustments or changeovers under supervision.
  • Follow all cleaning and sanitation procedures to maintain a sterile production environment.
  • Maintain and clean coolers, wagons, storage areas, and processing spaces.
  • Handle and store products in compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.
  • Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
  • Communicate with departments and team members about production needs or process issues.
  • Identify and resolve basic operational challenges to minimize downtime.
  • Utilize a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for operational efficiency.
  • Report any quality or safety concerns immediately to management.
