This role involves preparing cellular specimens, examining them using light microscopy, and reporting any abnormalities discovered. The Cytotechnologist performs microscopic screening and interpretations of gynecologic specimens, including retrieval of all significant clinical history, referral of all abnormal smears to a pathologist for consulting final diagnosis, one-on-one interpretation of abnormal results with the pathologist, and recording, coding, and reporting of diagnosis and filing patient smears. They also rescreen 10% of negative high-risk cases.
