About The Position
Loyola Medical Center is seeking a Cytopreparatory Technician for their new state-of-the-art Regional Clinical Laboratory. This role involves receiving and evaluating cytology specimens, processing various types of slides for diagnostic evaluation, and utilizing the pathology computer system for accurate record-keeping. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining supply inventory, operating and maintaining equipment, preparing cell blocks, and filing/retrieving slides and requisitions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Responsibilities
- Receive specimens or slides, assess acceptability and accession cytopathology cases into the pathology information system
- Process gynecological, and non-gynecological specimens and fine needle aspirations slides for diagnostic evaluation by the cytotechnologists and pathologists
- Maintain appropriate department supply inventory
- Sort vials for testing sent to reference labs
- Recognize, document and resolve specimen identification errors
- Store specimens appropriately
- Operate and maintain department equipment as required
- Prepare cell blocks for Histology
- File and retrieve slides and requisitions
