This role involves the microscopic examination of prepared routine Gyn and Non-Gyn cytology for the detection, identification, and documentation of evidence or absence of cancer cells or their precursors. The position also includes specimen processing, which covers all phases from initial accessioning, computer order entry, raw specimen to slide processing, staining, cover slipping, and reflex testing specimen preparation. The technologist will also assist in obtaining fine needle aspiration biopsies and preparing slides for rapid assessment by pathologists. Maintaining knowledge of and competence in computer software applications related to job responsibilities is also a key aspect of this role.
