About The Position

Silver Cross Hospital is seeking a Cytologist II Registry to screen and interpret gynecological and non-gynecological slides for diseases and abnormalities under general supervision. The role involves timely result reporting, documenting screening activities, and maintaining laboratory accreditation and compliance with regulatory standards. The Cytologist II will also assist with specimen processing, staining, and maintenance of equipment and procedures. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of diagnostic testing within the Anatomic Pathology department.

Requirements

  • Certification as Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Liquid based training (ThinPrep) and certification
  • Pass annual Proficiency Testing
  • Meet CLIA requirements

Responsibilities

  • Screen and interpret gynecological and non-gynecological slides for diseases and abnormalities under general supervision
  • Result the interpretation of each specimen examined in a timely manner
  • Document the total number of slides screened or reviewed in the laboratory or in any other laboratory in 24 hour period
  • Document the number of hours spent on screening slides in each 24 hour period
  • Maintains accreditation with College of American Pathologists (CAP), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), licensing for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
  • Ensures laboratory is compliant with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Knowledge to enter the results with appropriate diagnostic codes in the laboratory information system
  • Adheres to safety, quality control and assurance policies, departmental and hospital policies
  • Participate successfully required annual proficiency test, CAP surveys, computer based trainings and competency assessment
  • Assists with FNA’s and maintains the FNA cart
  • Assists and performs (as needed) with specimen accessioning, processing, staining, and disposing of specimens according to guidelines
  • Knowledge in processing and maintenance of Thin Prep 2000
  • Perform HPV orders, adding results and follow guidelines
  • Promotes a clean and safe environment of care, utilizing the SAFE error prevention habits
  • Provides the highest standard of privacy and confidentiality in matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital by abiding by the
  • Maintains Quality Improvement Program
  • Cytology statistics including comparison of tech with lab
  • Follow up on abnormal cases
  • Perform Cytohisto correlation
  • Quality control and rescreen on retrospective cases if qualified (CFR.493.1469) and as needed
  • Maintains current procedure manual(s) and reviews annually
  • Serves on committees / task forces as required
  • Assess and participates in the formation of annual goals
