About The Position

Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production. This role involves logging, tracking, accessioning, and troubleshooting specimens, using a computer imaging system to karyotype metaphases, performing routine instrument maintenance, monitoring inventory, and documenting all pertinent information. The technician will maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition, communicate regularly with supervisors, and complete training as appropriate. Adherence to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, Quality, and laboratory safety requirements is mandatory, including the use of personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls.

Requirements

One (1) year previous experience in a laboratory or related field.
Basic theoretical and operational job knowledge in laboratory testing.
Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work independently, establish work priorities and to handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.
Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers and clients.
Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
Associate's degree (Required) or bachelor's degree in science related field.
Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time.
Frequent walking and/or standing.
May be required to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses all of which demand significant manual dexterity.

Nice To Haves

Two (2) years previous experience in a laboratory or related field.

Responsibilities

Log, track, accession and troubleshoot specimens being received into the facility.
Use computer imaging system to karyotype metaphases.
Perform routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.
Monitor inventory.
Document all information pertinent to work assignments, including all QA incidents.
Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition.
Communicate regularly with supervisor and manager regarding issues, concerns and other department needs.
Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
Adheres to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, Quality and laboratory safety requirements.
Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, (b) engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management.
Other duties as assigned.
