Cypress Testing SME

CGIFairfax, VA
Onsite

About The Position

Help us put reliable quality on autopilot. As a Cypress Testing SME, you'll architect, scale, and continuously improve end-to-end (E2E) automation that accelerates delivery, reduces risk, and raises the bar for accessibility and compliance. You'll mentor a cross-functional team and turn our CI/CD pipeline into a fast, trusted feedback loop. If you enjoy shaping testing strategy and rolling up your sleeves to build clean, maintainable Cypress suites, this role gives you real ownership: from test architecture and data strategy to CI optimization, reporting, and a11y audits. You'll collaborate across Dev, QA, BA, and DevOps, and your decisions will directly improve release speed and confidence. You'll also get to evaluate best-in-class plugins and codify patterns the whole team will use—building a culture where quality is everyone's job. This position is located in Lafayette, LA or Fairfax, VA.

Requirements

  • Expert-level Cypress experience designing and maintaining large E2E suites (JavaScript/TypeScript, fixtures, custom commands, page-objects, network stubs).
  • Proven CI/CD expertise with GitHub Actions (matrix/parallel runs, caching, artifacts, secrets, dashboards).
  • Strong test data management practices for UI flows (seed/reset strategies; ephemeral test users; environment toggles).
  • Testing strategies incl. seeding/stubbing
  • Fluency in flake reduction: timeouts, retries, isolation, stable selectors, cross-env consistency.
  • Experience implementing accessibility checks (WCAG/Section?508) in Cypress (e.g., cypress-axe).
  • Comfort collaborating across Dev/QA/BA/DevOps to integrate automation in the broader SDLC.
  • Knowledge of federal security and data-handling standards; experience applying internal controls in test automation.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on with visual testing (Percy/Applitools) in CI.
  • Rich reporting experience
  • Familiarity with Testing Library queries and data-attributes strategy for resilient selectors
  • Experience influencing team practices through documentation, workshops, and code reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & evolve E2E automation: own the creation, expansion, and long-term maintenance of Cypress E2E test suites that are readable, modular, and team-friendly (fixtures, custom commands, page objects, data-attributes-based selectors).
  • Design testing strategy & architecture: define test strategies that align with modern QA standards: test data management, network stubbing/mocking (cy.intercept), cross-environment stability, and flake management (timeouts, retries, isolation).
  • Own CI/CD reliability & speed: configure, optimize, and troubleshoot GitHub Actions workflows that run Cypress at scale (parallelization, caching, test shard strategy, artifacts/screenshots/videos, dashboards).
  • Troubleshoot & continuously improve: diagnose failures locally and in pipelines, differentiate true defects vs. flaky tests, and drive corrective patterns (stable selectors, network stubs, test isolation, environment parity).
  • Mentor & uplift the team: coach testers and developers on Cypress tooling, patterns, and frameworks; author internal guides and working examples; pair-program on tricky cases to accelerate adoption.
  • Integrate quality throughout the SDLC: collaborate closely with Developers, BAs, Functional Testers, and DevOps to embed automated testing in story definition, PR checks, release gates, and deployment health signals.
  • Evaluate the Cypress ecosystem (plugins/tools): assess, pilot, and implement plugins where beneficial
  • Compliance, security & accessibility: ensure automation and test data handling adhere to federal security and data-handling requirements and our internal security standards.
