About The Position

The Custodian performs a variety of cleaning, housekeeping, and semiskilled duties for CYP facilities, including facility cleaning, equipment maintenance, laundering, minor facility repairs, and outdoor maintenance. They also maintain inventories of cleaning supplies, deliver supplies, merchandise, and equipment to other CYP facilities, and assist with event setup by moving furniture and/or program equipment, and setting up tables and chairs. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
  • Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Provide evidence of immunization.
  • Be free of all communicable diseases.
  • Obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
  • Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
  • Knowledge of a variety of chemical and cleaning agents.
  • Skill to use a variety of household and industrial equipment and attachments.
  • Skill to operate, clean, and make adjustments to powered cleaning equipment.
  • Physical ability to move furniture, lift and move objects over 50lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Provide a copy of your H.S. Diploma, GED, or College Transcripts (showing degree awarded/conferred) when you apply.
  • Complete the Installation Records Check (IRC).
  • Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
  • Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
  • Identity will need to be established according to the Real ID Act of 2005 if access to a military installation is required and a REAL ID is not possessed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all custodial and housekeeping services according to established specifications, ensuring child and youth routines are not disturbed.
  • Conduct daily cleaning services, some of which may occur when programs are not in operation and children and youth are not present.
  • Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors, and clean carpets.
  • Wipe mirrors, metal doorplates, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and all metal fittings.
  • Clean showcases, entrance doors, activity spaces/classrooms, doorframes and switches, paper towel dispensers, and other surfaces as required.
  • Clean glass partitions, inside and outside windows, and use stepladders and extension ladders to change light bulbs, replace blinds, and wash walls.
  • Dust, wax, and polish furniture, ensuring dusting of furniture, equipment, and surfaces is not done within the reach of children.
  • Empty and wash trashcans.
  • Inspect grounds, including removing trash and debris, and notify supervisor of safety hazards.
  • Maintain restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition, including cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing lavatories.
  • Replace deodorizers, toilet tissues, hand towels, and soap.
  • Report water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring repairs to the supervisor.
  • Sweep sidewalks and parking lots.
  • Operate powered cleaning equipment, clean and oil equipment, and change brushes and accessories.
  • Maintain cleaning supplies and advise the supervisor when supplies are needed or when equipment needs repairs or replacement.
  • Ensure all custodial equipment, supplies, and materials are approved by the health consultant or safety officer.
  • Ensure that hallways, stairways, entrances, and doorways are not obstructed by any cleaning or maintenance operations or storage of equipment and materials.
  • Store custodial supplies and equipment properly in locked cabinets or closets away from child and youth activity rooms.
  • Load and unload merchandise, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assemble equipment.
  • Deliver merchandise, equipment, and supplies to other locations (less than 10% of the time).
  • Move, set-up, and/or rearrange furniture.
  • Set-up and break-down for special events.
  • Comply with security, fire, and sanitation rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
