About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members, in a group environment, through a prearranged format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance, while ensuring that the safety of the members is not compromised. The Group Exercise Instructor will also serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

Requirements

  • At least six months teaching in a group exercise format.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise technique and group exercise principles.
  • Knowledge of basic physiology and body mechanics.
  • Performance of a variety of exercise routines.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
  • Instructors having a specialized skill such as Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, Body Attack, etc. must provide verifiable proof of education.
  • Group fitness certification by ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or specialized certifications such as and limited to Zumba, Strong, Les Mills, Silver Sneakers etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Clothing should be appropriate fitness attire that does not prohibit participants from seeing proper form, alignment and movement of the body.
  • When possible, wear Gold’s Gym branded attire.
  • Proper footwear should be worn at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Lead members in a group environment through prearranged exercise formats.
  • Enhance overall fitness, strength, and endurance.
  • Ensure member safety during exercises.
  • Serve as a resource to educate members on fitness.
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early for class to interact with members, answer questions, and orient new participants.
  • Know participants individually and understand their fitness capabilities.
  • Introduce yourself and the class format.
  • Inquire about first-time attendees and assess their fitness level discreetly.
  • Ensure clear verbal instructions, appropriate music volume and tempo, and a conducive atmosphere for learning and fun.
  • Continuously monitor participants for correct form and offer variations for different fitness levels.
  • Create a motivational and fun environment.
  • Remove music and return microphones after class.
  • Ensure the room is in order for the next class.
  • Answer participant questions and concerns.
  • Solicit feedback from participants.
  • Refrain from using music with offensive language.
  • Prepare appropriate music for class.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and microphones are ready.
  • Ensure classes begin and end promptly, adjusting the flow as needed.
  • Follow proper closing procedures if teaching the last class of the day.
  • Find a qualified/approved substitute if unable to fulfill a scheduled class and notify the Group Exercise Director if there are issues finding a substitute.
  • Be dependable and consistent in class schedules.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Follow proper time recording procedures.
  • Prepare incident and/or witness reports as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Promote Gold’s Gym and GGX.
