We are currently seeking a Cyber Security Intern to support our team, DOE Office of Legacy Management (DOE LM) sites.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • US Citizenship: Yes
  • Drug Screen
  • Physical Assessment (if applicable)
  • Background Check (Criminal, Civil, Educational, Previous Employment, etc.)
  • Driver Record Screen (for positions requiring on-the-job-driving)
  • Microsoft office including but not limited to Excel and Word
  • Basic understanding of computer networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP)
  • Familiarity with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux)

Nice To Haves

  • An interest in or exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Technical report writing and documentation
  • Provide information and systems security support supervised by other team members.
  • Analyze security logs and reports from firewalls and boundary protection devices to detect, investigate, and report on potential threats to system confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Identify vulnerabilities that are applicable to systems and applications to assess their severity and urgency.
  • Work with other IT staff to track corrective action, resolution progress, and mitigation of vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct research on emerging cyber threats and threat actors to help develop and refine threat intelligence campaigns.
  • Assist in developing materials for security awareness programs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues with cybersecurity controls to ensure their effective operation.
  • Support operations and maintenance of cybersecurity toolsets.
  • Other duties as assigned.
