About The Position

We are searching for an undergraduate student to join our Cybersecurity Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. Information Technology Services provides ARL’s administrative and research computing environments and capabilities, delivering secure, responsive, efficient, effective, and compliant IT services and operations to meet the demanding needs of ARL’s leading edge research. This position will assist our unclassified cybersecurity assurance team in compliance and operations. The student will be responsible for all tier 1 compliance, audit, and continuous monitoring tasks. Additionally, they will get the opportunity to assist senior level analysts on larger scale projects focused on automation and threat identification.

Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student studying within the field of Information and Cyber Security, Information Science and Technology, or computer science/engineering.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
  • Must be able to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete background check(s) in accordance with University policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with defensive cyber tools such as Firewalls, SIEM, XDR/EDR, CASB, FIM, IDS/IPS
  • Networking fundamentals
  • System administration and troubleshooting
  • Scripting (bash, python, etc)
  • Compliance or auditing
  • NIST documentation (eg. 800-171, 800-53)
  • STIG
