About The Position

The Cyber Security Engineer (A&A SME) leads the implementation and oversight of secure system configurations, architecture reviews, and compliance monitoring in support of federal cybersecurity mandates. This position provides subject matter expertise in vulnerability management, control inheritance, and secure integration of applications and infrastructure. The engineer leads accreditation activities under RMF, authors security documentation, and coordinates across engineering teams to enforce cybersecurity across the system lifecycle. As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), staying focused on the assigned tasks, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or Engineering
  • 5+ years cybersecurity engineering experience in federal or DoD programs
  • Current IAT Level III certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+)
  • Proven experience leading RMF-based accreditation efforts
  • Proficiency in DISA STIG compliance, security architecture, and documentation
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Cybersecurity or Systems Engineering
  • Experience with cross-domain solutions, cloud security, or SCAP automation
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP, CNSSI 1253, and Continuous Monitoring Plans
  • Technical leadership experience in classified or multi-enclave environments

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead on secure system design and implementation tasks
  • Oversee application of DISA STIGs and RMF controls for enterprise systems
  • Lead vulnerability mitigation plans and POA&M closure efforts
  • Review system architecture for compliance with DoD and NIST requirements
  • Guide development of system security plans (SSP), risk assessments, and SARs
  • Represent cybersecurity engineering in design reviews and CCBs
  • Coordinate accreditation activities and ensure readiness for audits
  • Develop security engineering SOPs and process documentation
  • Advise stakeholders on emerging threats and mitigation strategies
  • Mentor junior engineers and analysts on secure system practices
