About The Position

The Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for assisting with incident response, risk management, and disaster recovery planning among other security related responsibilities. On-call support is expected for the monitoring and response of critical systems and incidents. The Cyber Security Engineer is expected to be a Subject Matter Expert regarding security-related IT assets and systems utilized by the institution.

Requirements

  • Two plus years of information security-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Windows, Mac OS and Linux experience is required.
  • Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet insurance requirements for driving university provided vehicles.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community or law enforcement.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Requires the ability to be accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Requires the ability to make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Requires the ability to use or repair network diagnostic equipment.
  • Requires the ability to repair, develop, or install computer hardware or network systems.
  • Requires strong knowledge of network standards and protocols.
  • Requires strong knowledge of security frameworks and methodologies.
  • Requires the ability to supervise and mentor employees developing, installing, or repairing technology systems.
  • Requires leadership experience and ability to delegate and manage a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Security-related certifications are preferred; this may include Security+, GSEC, CISM, CISSP or other relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor emerging security/operationally related trends and threats to the institution daily.
  • On call availability for incident response and containment.
  • Facilitate the detection and mitigation of threats to the integrity of institution infrastructure.
  • Provide input and assist in the deployment, configuration, and management of security systems.
  • Provide input and assist in the management of access control devices and systems.
  • Provide input and assist in the management of monitoring and auditing IT assets.
  • Provide input and assist in the configuration and management of centralized log storage.
  • Lead the deployment and use of forensic examination technologies.
  • Assist with developing, publishing, and managing risk assessment, business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Assist with the administration, maintenance, and update of servers to provide the highest practicable levels of uptime and availability.
  • Prepare, propose, and implement security related initiatives to increase the security posture or operational efficiency of institution systems.
  • Organize and manage many simultaneous projects.
  • Work with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Supports the institution culture through personal involvement in activities.
  • Employee may perform special projects and other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the institution.
