About The Position

Cybersecurity Engineer II Role Summary Howard University Hospital is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer II to help protect the hospital’s digital infrastructure, clinical systems, and sensitive patient data. This role is responsible for implementing and managing cybersecurity technologies, monitoring threats, supporting regulatory compliance, and strengthening the hospital’s overall security posture. The Cybersecurity Engineer II works collaboratively with IT, clinical, and administrative teams to ensure secure technology operations while supporting the hospital’s mission of delivering exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of cybersecurity engineering or IT security operations experience
  • Experience implementing and managing network security solutions
  • Experience with cloud security platforms (Azure, AWS)
  • Experience with endpoint protection and vulnerability management
  • Familiarity with incident response procedures
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare environment

Nice To Haves

  • Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent
  • Prior experience supporting healthcare IT environments

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain cybersecurity tools including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint protection, and SIEM platforms
  • Monitor network and system activity for potential threats and respond to security incidents
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and support penetration testing activities
  • Remediate security vulnerabilities and support enterprise risk mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with security standards including HIPAA, NIST, and internal security policies
  • Maintain security documentation, incident reports, and compliance records
  • Recommend improvements to security architecture and operational processes
  • Support cross-functional IT initiatives and hospital cybersecurity programs
  • Provide guidance and technical direction to junior cybersecurity staff and project teams
  • Participate in cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives across the organization
