About The Position

SimSpace is seeking a Cyber Range Engineer to architect, deploy, and maintain cloud-based cyber ranges and training environments. This role involves designing and implementing scalable, realistic training infrastructure that emulates enterprise environments across multiple cloud platforms. The Cyber Range Engineer will collaborate with security researchers and training specialists to create the technical foundation for high-fidelity security simulations and exercises, ensuring authentic cloud experiences while maintaining isolation, monitoring capabilities, and resource efficiency.

Requirements

  • Expertise in networking knowledge including: Virtual networking architecture and segmentation subnets, routing)
  • Network security and access control (firewalls, security groups, NACLs)
  • Secure connectivity solutions (VPN and direct connectivity solutions)
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and virtual machine deployment
  • Experience with cloud and cloud-based technologies
  • Familiarity with enterprise IT architectures and common business applications
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging solutions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex infrastructure issues
  • Exemplary documentation and technical communication abilities
  • Strong customer interaction skills
  • Knowledge of security concepts and best practices for isolated environments
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines

Nice To Haves

  • Network engineering certification a plus
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools, including Puppet and Ansible a plus
  • Familiarity with VMware, NSX-T a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain local and cloud-based cyber range architectures that support multiple concurrent training scenarios and user sessions
  • Develop automation frameworks for rapid deployment, teardown, and reset of range environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
  • Create emulated cloud services and resources when direct cloud integration isn't feasible or cost-effective
  • Maintain security controls and network isolation to prevent range escape or resource abuse
  • Be an expert on SimSpace software providing guidance and documentation for many different use cases
  • Develop and maintain documentation for range architectures, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides
  • Occasional travel to other customer or partner locations (estimated 10%) may be required in the future
