About The Position

Overwatch is a service-disabled Veteran-owned small business (SDVOB) certified through the national veterans business development council (NVBDC), offering construction professional services, talent acquisition, and general contractor for the mission-critical infrastructure industry. Our mission is the construction and management of state-of-the-art data centers with the precision and reliability this industry demands. From high-end engineers to seasoned professionals, we deploy the people you need to get your data center off the ground. At Overwatch, it's more than a job. It's purpose.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in commissioning, electrical engineering, or mission-critical construction.
  • Strong background in data centers or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with UPS systems, medium/low voltage switchgear, backup generators, and power distribution systems.
  • Experience leading or supporting FAT / SAT / IST / Level 1–5 commissioning.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines and construction documents.
  • Experience working with GCs and commissioning agents (CxA).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a professional work environment, including preparing written reports and documentation, conveying information clearly to team members, clients, and stakeholders, and responding appropriately to verbal and written communications related to job duties.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, twist, bend, and climb stairs or ladders for extended periods while navigating uneven, unpaved, or obstructed terrain.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to drive between job sites and access all areas of an active construction zone, including raised platforms, scaffolding, and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and construction-related noise, vibrations, and odors.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and site personnel, and maintain situational awareness in high-activity environments.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety vests, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots, is required.
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to read drawings, specifications, and safety signage, and to observe site activity.

Nice To Haves

  • STRONG PREFERENCE FOR A MORE ELECTRICAL BIASED INDIVIDUAL.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning of on-site microgrid systems, including gas turbine / generator plants (primary generation), medium-voltage distribution (MV switchgear, substations), and synchronization and load-sharing systems.
  • Validate islanded operation capability (campus runs independent of grid).
  • Oversee black start and resiliency testing scenarios.
  • Coordinate commissioning between power generation EPCs, data center electrical contractors, and controls/SCADA integrators.
  • Commission and validate HV/MV substations, switchyards and step-down transformers, and ring bus / redundant distribution topology.
  • Perform energization sequencing planning across campus phases.
  • Ensure proper protection coordination and relay testing.
  • Validate fault scenarios and system selectivity.
  • Commission UPS systems (static + potentially rotary depending on design), STS / ATS systems, PDUs / RPPs / busway systems, backup diesel generators (tier redundancy), and grounding and bonding systems.
  • Oversee Level 1–5 commissioning.
  • Validate redundancy (N, N+1, 2N architectures).
  • Execute failure mode testing (FMT) and scenario-based testing.
  • Lead multi-system integrated testing across power generation → MV distribution → UPS → IT load.
  • Validate load transfers between utility/microgrid/generators.
  • Validate failure response (breaker trips, generator failure, UPS faults).
  • Coordinate phased IST across multiple buildings.
  • Commission centralized control systems managing power generation, distribution, and load balancing.
  • Validate integration with BMS / EPMS and microgrid control platform.
  • Ensure real-time monitoring and automated response logic.
  • Support multi-phase buildout (building-by-building delivery).
  • Ensure early buildings are operational while later phases are under construction.
  • Manage temporary power conditions, tie-ins between phases, and expansion without downtime.
  • Interface with OEMs for turbines / generators, UPS (Schneider, Vertiv, ABB likely), and switchgear manufacturers.
  • Witness and validate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Ensure OEM sequences align with commissioning scripts.
  • Identify risks tied to microgrid instability, synchronization failures, and load imbalance across buildings.
  • Develop contingency plans for power failure scenarios and commissioning delays impacting go-live.
  • Ensure compliance with Tier-level uptime expectations.
  • Oversee development of commissioning reports, test scripts & results, and as-built electrical documentation.
  • Support operations training (especially microgrid operations) and handover to data center ops teams.
  • Ensure systems meet AI workload reliability demands.
  • Work across development team, BorderPlex infrastructure partners, power plant developers, and general contractors & trades.
  • Act as technical authority on electrical commissioning strategy.
