About The Position

This is a permanent, full-time position located in Clackamas, Oregon, with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). The role involves assisting in the recovery and processing of coded-wire tags from salmonid fish sampled in various fisheries, spawning grounds, and hatchery returns. Additionally, the position supports ODFW's annual fish marking and tagging program for juvenile salmon and steelhead trout during the peak season (April-July), which includes overseeing fin marking and coded-wire tagging operations at hatcheries and rearing facilities statewide.

Requirements

  • Experience collecting and recording data
  • Experience monitoring and research of fish, wildlife, and their habitats in a field setting
  • Experience marking and tagging fish
  • Experience collecting biological data
  • Experience identifying adult and juvenile fish species
  • Data management and entry experience
  • Currently pursuing or possess a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Recovery and processing of coded-wire tags from snouts of adult salmonid fish.
  • Assisting in ODFW’s annual fish marking and tagging program for juvenile salmon and steelhead trout.
  • Overseeing fin marking and coded-wire tagging (CWT) operations at various hatcheries and other fish rearing facilities statewide during the peak season (April – July).
