About The Position

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities in the operating room under the direction of a registered nurse.

Requirements

  • Completion of Health First’s On-The-Job Training Program for Surgical Technician, or graduate of a program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College, or School for Surgical Technology), or one year of work experience as a surgical tech or surgical assistant.
  • Must hold American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Reliable transportation with ability to respond from location within 30 minutes of assigned facility when on-call.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable with daily schedule and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or life-threatening situations.
  • Detail-oriented with ability for continuous concentration on an activity.
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to interact effectively with medical staff and patient care teams.
  • Motivated to complete milestones and competencies with ability to receive constructive criticism and apply to future performance.
  • Ability to work autonomously, while consulting chain of command as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist.
  • Work Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a surgical technologist with some CVOR.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of duties in an operating room observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations.
  • Create, maintain, and terminate sterile field for surgical procedures.
  • Properly handle and care for all instruments and equipment. Check materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; report faulty equipment and instruments per policy.
  • Assist with precepting new technical personnel.
  • Attend in-services and mandatory meetings.
  • Cooperate with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient.
  • Anticipate needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in an operative procedure.
  • Demonstrate an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills check list.
