Emory Healthcare is seeking a CVOR Surgical Technologist to implement and evaluate care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients undergoing diagnostic and invasive surgical procedures. This role involves providing care to patients with complex health issues, serving as a clinical resource, and analyzing potential outcomes of surgical interventions. The individual will be an expert in at least two complex specialty areas, with the ability to float to other complex specialty areas. Complex specialty areas include CVOR, Complex Neuro Procedures (aneurysm, craniotomy), Large Organ Transplant, Surg Onc (Head & Neck, Skull Based, HIPEC), and Reconstructive Surgery (e.g. TRAM Flaps). Responsibilities include leading service area committees, identifying cost containment activities, monitoring and purchasing supplies, identifying complex patient needs, prioritizing and participating in procedure processes, documenting unusual incidents, planning for surgical procedures, implementing interventions, utilizing standards of care, determining equipment and resource needs, communicating patient and staff needs, keeping the peri-operative team informed, maintaining professional behavior, developing and revising procedure protocols, revising surgical preference cards, documenting care, establishing and meeting goals, active membership in professional organizations, resolving patient advocacy issues, acting as a resource for interdisciplinary needs, identifying supply resources, assisting in identifying staff and patient education needs, serving as a clinical resource for Surgical Technologists, assisting with department orientation, assisting with unit-based competency requirements, serving as a role model or mentor, complying with policies and procedures, providing input in developing and revising policies, completing orientation programs, attending and leading educational programs, assisting in identifying ways to modify outcomes through research and/or quality monitoring, reviewing and identifying revisions to surgical preference cards, participating in performance improvement programs, assisting in research activities, and analyzing and reporting data. The role also involves assisting surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures, as well as preparing the operating room and operating specialized instrumentation.
