This position assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during, and after surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. They assist the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens. This role also assists with all aspects of room turnover. The Surgical Technologist is assigned to heightened specialized procedures including neurosurgery and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics. They perform duties according to department policy and procedure, monitor surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility, and ensure judicious use of supplies, accurate charge documentation, and monitoring of sterilization activities. The role involves attending in-services/staff meetings, participating in the Performance Improvement Process, and pursuing educational opportunities to increase competency. Additionally, the Surgical Technologist assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards, serves as a preceptor and clinical resource, and assumes responsibility for unit clinical projects and overseeing service lines as needed.
