About The Position

The CV Specialist II role involves precepting new staff and students, mastering hemodynamics concepts, and possessing intermediate knowledge of x-ray equipment and troubleshooting. This position requires the ability to assist with circulating duties, troubleshoot imaging equipment in collaboration with biomedical engineers, and participate in procedural charging. The specialist will manage supply, act quickly in emergencies, discuss plans with physicians, and assist with high-risk procedures. Cross-training is expected to support departmental needs. Responsibilities include monitoring cases, understanding and operating x-ray systems, managing access sites (including sheath removal and hematoma assessment/management), comprehending radiation safety, and demonstrating knowledge of coronary anatomy and lesion types. Basic knowledge of supply features and applications, along with adherence to sterile technique, is essential. Effective communication with the team, patients, families, and medical staff is crucial. In the Cath Lab, the role includes assisting with complex procedures such as PCI (including CTO), managing multiple wire exchanges, and utilizing long wires and OTW balloons. Proficiency with specialty devices like rotablator, CSI, laser, and shockwave is expected. Participation in structural heart cases may occur. The specialist will troubleshoot emergency equipment (balloon pump and ventricular assist device) and assist in the scrub role for procedures like right & left heart catheterization, PCIs, and STEMIs. In the EP Lab, responsibilities include assisting with advanced EP procedures (lead extractions, complex ablations, and independent stims) and assisting in the scrub role for cardiac ablations, device implants, ECDs, generator changes, and loop recorders.

Requirements

Licensed AEMT OR National Registered Paramedic (NRP) OR graduate of accredited school of radiologic technology OR accredited school of cardiovascular technology OR academic program in health sciences
Must become registered as an ARRT with post primary category of cardiac interventional radiography or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) or RCES obtained within 12 months of hire or promotion as a condition of continued employment

Responsibilities

Understand concepts of radiation safety
Knowledgeable in coronary anatomy and recognizing different types of lesions
Basic knowledge of supply features and applications to procedure
Knowledge and adherence to sterile technique
Communicate effectively with team, patients, families and medical staff
Assist in procedures such as complex PCI including CTO
Assist with complex procedures; including multiple wire exchanges and able to use long wires and OTW balloons
Use specialty devices such as rotablator, CSI, laser and shockwave
May participate in structural heart cases
Troubleshoot emergency equipment (balloon pump and ventricular assist device)
Assist in scrub role for procedures such as right & left heart catherization, PCIs and STEMIs
