About The Position

Possesses the skills to operate multi-stage machinery with precision. Works independently to analyze and resolve problems as they occur. Anticipates operating requirements and make adjustments as necessary. NOTE: Wearing personal protective equipment is required, including, but not limited to; safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes/boots, Kevlar sleeves, cut proof jacket. When large sheets of glass are taken off from the float table, a full Kevlar suit and cut-proof gloves are required.

Requirements

  • Either a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • One-two years previous experience with complex machinery and/or four-week internal training course.
  • Ability to independently operate the line, perform minor repairs, and housekeeping during production hours is required
  • Understanding of the impact of the cutting line on final product quality
  • Ability to speak and read English and understand instructions from the Daily Production Plan
  • Ability to perform necessary mathematical operations
  • Ability to use Mechanical Caliper to measure size of glass
  • Ability to fully understand the cutting process (i.e. why some problems appear and how to prevent them)
  • Ability to deal with problems and find the fastest way to solve them, either by acting alone or with other employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from a technical school or college coursework is preferred.
  • Completion of the four-week internal training course may be signified by a notation in the employee’s training record from the DHR. This notation is done upon notification by the PS or department head to the DHR that the employee has completed the training and is qualified to perform the position.”

Responsibilities

  • Correctly operates and adjusts sequential breakers
  • Operates and adjusts multiple heads on the grinders and replaces grinding and polish wheels when needed
  • Sets up and operates and adjusts washing machines
  • Prepares and mixes washing solution for the washer as needed
  • Monitors and maintains water tanks and air knives
  • Monitors operating mechanisms and cleanliness of rollers and transfer conveyors for proper operation
  • Must always be at work area, never leave unattended.
  • Most critical areas such as second breaker and exit of the second grinder must be under continuous observation (during break and lunch times when only one technician is at the area he/she must stay by the exit of the second grinder/washer).
  • Measures and records size of glass (blueprint is used; provided by the Production Supervisor)
  • Measures glass with QAT when glass is up and down as needed
  • Keeps record of all rejects on the line using counters
  • Performs extensive maintenance, both preventive (e.g. greasing bearings, replacing bad bearings, belts, rollers, brushes, sprockets, rings, chains, and clean/change filters and water/air lines) and corrective (e.g. replace broken belts, bearings, rollers, brushes, “O” rings, pullers, hoses, and chains) under direction of the Production Supervisor and/or Maintenance Manager
  • Works with maintenance when major problem (e.g. breakdown) occurs until task is completed
  • Cleans work area as needed or directed
  • Performs clean-up tasks upon request
  • Works with hangers, QAT, and Production Supervisor to resolve problems on the line
  • Does all other duties as assigned
