About The Position

This role supports the organization in managing key international trade compliance processes, particularly in relation to customs regulations. The analyst will be responsible for establishing internal verification and audit processes for tariff classification quality, implementing correction and action processes for product classifications within the Harmonized System, and preparing technical documentation related to tariff classification. The position also involves guiding regional compliance strategies, providing technical information for government audits and customs authority requests, and participating in documentation processes for responses to customs authorities like CBP, CBSA, and SAT. Additionally, the role provides guidance on tariff classification strategies to ensure compliance with anti-dumping and countervailing measures, and carries out various compliance activities such as origin determination, marking, free trade agreement benefits, surtaxes, and tariff classification updates. The analyst will also contribute to the development and implementation of regional customs compliance strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in international trade, business administration, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in customs brokerage with expertise in tariff classification.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. customs regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of international trade compliance terminology.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong leadership, autonomy, and ability to manage stress.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Mexico is an asset.
  • CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) designation – an asset.
  • Technical knowledge in engineering (vehicles, automotive) – an asset.
  • Power BI is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SAP-GTS – an asset.
  • Spanish is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing an internal verification and audit process to ensure the quality of tariff classification in accordance with regulatory frameworks, guidelines, and company policies.
  • Implementing a correction and action process to ensure the quality and consistency of product classifications within the Harmonized System nomenclature.
  • Preparing technical documentation related to tariff classification based on the use, functionality, and technical characteristics of products.
  • Guiding and supporting regional compliance strategies related to tariff classification.
  • Providing technical information in support of government audits and official requests from customs authorities internationally.
  • Participating in the documentation process to respond to requests from customs authorities, such as CBP Form 28 and Form 29, as well as requests from the CBSA, SAT, and other global customs agencies.
  • Providing guidance and initiatives stemming from tariff classification strategies to ensure that BRP complies with anti-dumping and countervailing (AD/CV) measures implemented by countries where BRP operates, based on classification, origin, and definitions of goods covered by such cases, while ensuring best practices in record-keeping.
  • Carrying out and supporting various compliance activities, such as origin determination and marking, application of rules of origin for free trade agreement benefits, management of surtaxes and their exclusions, tariff classification updates, etc.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of regional customs compliance strategies.
