About The Position

StarTech.com is seeking a Customs and Trade Analyst to transform complex customs, trade, operational, and financial data into actionable insights. This role focuses on strengthening compliance, controlling costs, and improving supply-chain performance by analyzing duties, tariffs, landed costs, trade programs, inventory, and transportation data. It connects Customs & Trade with the broader business, supporting informed decisions and enhancing global supply chain visibility. The position reports to the Director, Global Distribution & Logistics and involves collaboration with various internal departments and external partners. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days a week at StarTech.com’s U.S. Distribution Center in Groveport, Ohio.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with data-analysis and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to develop models, dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that make complex information easier to understand and use.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess information from multiple sources, recognize patterns, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Experience validating data, conducting audits, improving reporting processes, and creating scalable analytical practices.
  • High level of attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to translate complex technical, regulatory, and operational information into clear recommendations for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and turn detailed analysis into recommendations that support operational or financial decisions.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and changing business needs in a dynamic environment.
  • High degree of ownership, accountability, and sound judgment when evaluating data, identifying risks, and recommending next steps.
  • Confidence to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders across Global Sourcing, Finance, Supply Chain & Logistics, Operations, Legal and Compliance, and Customs & Trade.
  • Curiosity and adaptability when existing reports or processes do not provide the visibility needed, along with the initiative to develop new analytical approaches and decision-support tools.
  • Professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive financial, compliance, and operational information.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy while escalating significant compliance concerns, financial risks, or strategic decisions when appropriate.
  • Comfort working for extended periods on a computer, reviewing detailed information, developing reports, and participating in meetings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Economics, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Three to five years of experience in data analytics, supply-chain analytics, trade compliance, logistics, or a related analytical role.
  • Experience working with large datasets and developing reporting solutions that inform operational or financial decisions.
  • Proficiency with analytical and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel, or equivalent platforms.
  • Working knowledge of supply-chain operations, logistics, customs, and trade-compliance concepts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, e-commerce, or high-SKU environment.
  • Knowledge of customs compliance, tariff classification, trade programs, or Foreign Trade Zone operations.
  • Exposure to duty drawback, first-sale valuation, tariff engineering, FTZ operations, or similar trade-optimization programs.
  • Professional certification in data analytics, supply chain, logistics, or trade compliance.
  • Availability for occasional travel to support business initiatives, team collaboration, or vendor meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze duty, tariff, landed-cost, and trade-program data to uncover cost-saving opportunities and provide insights that inform sourcing, supply-chain, and financial decisions.
  • Partner closely with Global Sourcing and Sourcing & Procurement to evaluate the customs, tariff, and landed-cost implications of business decisions.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, analytical models, and data visualizations that improve visibility across customs compliance, inventory, transportation, and overall supply-chain performance.
  • Work with large, complex datasets from multiple sources, validate the accuracy of the information, identify trends and anomalies, and translate findings into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Conduct trade-compliance audits and monitor tariff classification accuracy to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for corrective action or continuous improvement.
  • Reconcile Foreign Trade Zone data, investigate discrepancies, and identify anomalies that may affect reporting, compliance, operational performance, or financial outcomes.
  • Support the evaluation of duty drawback, first-sale valuation, tariff engineering, FTZ operations, and other trade-optimization opportunities where applicable.
  • Collaborate across Finance, Supply Chain & Logistics, Global Sourcing, Operations, Legal and Compliance, and Customs & Trade to support business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate technical, regulatory, operational, and financial findings in a way that is clear and useful to stakeholders who may not have specialized customs or supply-chain expertise.
  • Work with customs brokers, trade consultants and counsel, regulatory authorities, and technology or solution providers to support analysis, compliance requirements, and business initiatives.
  • Evaluate analytical tools and reporting processes, recommend improvements, and help establish scalable data-management and reporting practices across supply-chain functions.
  • Independently identify analytical needs, prioritize projects, and determine the most effective methods, tools, and reporting solutions to address business challenges.
