About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Sergeant, the Customer Service Representative's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, data entry, sending emails, and interacting with the public and other law enforcement agencies. This is a grant-funded position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department. Harris County Sheriff's Office employees are exposed to confidential and law enforcement sensitive information. A thorough background investigation is required to properly evaluate the suitability of applicants for employment. It is essential that you provide accurate information in all aspects of the process. The process will end for applicants who fail to provide truthful information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • A minimum of one (1) year of paid work experience in an office environment performing clerical duties
  • Pass pre-employment HCSO Clerical Skills Test with a minimum overall score of 75%
  • Score a typing speed of 35 W.P.M with 85% accuracy
  • Knowledge of general office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Customer service and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to communicate with and interact with the public.
  • Ability to adhere to duty hours with an excellent attendance record.

  • Use of SUPERION/ RMS, JWEB, Microsoft Office Applications, and other applicable computer systems. (Superion/RMS/JWEB for Internal Applicants Only.)
  • STARS Timekeeper Experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Knowledge of standard office software programs

Responsibilities

  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and provide information to the public as needed.
  • Send and receive emails.
  • Open and distribute mail.
  • Data entry and management.
  • Maintain office supply inventory and orders.
  • Manage cash handling and prepare and process deposits in compliance with County Auditor accounting procedures.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required and/or necessary.
