About The Position

Pine River Group, a leading supplier of marine piling, decking, and lumber products, is searching for a Customer Service team member. They supply high-quality marine pilings and pressure-treated lumber for municipal, commercial, marina, and residential projects across the Midwest. This role develops foundational selling skills, learns core sales processes, and gradually assumes responsibility for customer engagement, lead development, and revenue-generating activities within the wood products and building materials sector. This role provides a structured pathway for customer service professionals to transition into sales, preparing them for advancement into a business development capacity.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) for working effectively with others.
  • Computer proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Docs and ability to navigate and acquire skills to use internal systems.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High accuracy level.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree, concentration in Marketing, Business preferred or four (4) years equivalent experience in sales or marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Gain industry knowledge by learning the lumber and building materials business, including customer needs, product lines, market strategies, product availability, and manufacturing processes.
  • Engage with customers—both prospective and existing—through outbound communication, inbound inquiries, and relationship‑building interactions that strengthen customer satisfaction and trust.
  • Develop core selling capabilities such as discovery, needs assessment, and value‑based communication, building on existing customer service strengths.
  • Cross‑train with sales teams to observe customer calls, understand the full sales cycle, and support business development activities.
  • Provide accurate quotes and pricing while responding to customer questions regarding lumber products, orders, and services.
  • Process and manage sales orders from entry through production, distribution, and invoicing to ensure accuracy and timely fulfillment.
  • Troubleshoot issues by coordinating between operations and sales teams to resolve customer concerns and maintain service quality.
  • Collaborate with Logistics to arrange timely shipment and distribution of products.
  • Process and track customer credit applications to support account setup and order processing.
  • Transition from service to sales by learning how to identify customer needs, recommend solutions, and close opportunities that contribute to revenue growth.
  • Follow company policies and procedures, including sales reporting, system entry, and credit guidelines.
  • Contribute ideas and improvements that enhance customer experience, streamline processes, and maximize sales opportunities.
