About The Position

Essex Junction Parks & Recreation is seeking a friendly, organized, and customer-focused professional to serve as our Customer Service Specialist. This role is the front line of our department, supporting residents, participants, and visitors while helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to assist the public across a variety of needs. At times, this individual may work independently in the office, handling customer transactions, answering questions, and keeping operations running smoothly.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills and a commitment to providing a positive experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly (written and verbal) with a wide range of audiences
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Comfort working independently and exercising sound judgment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office systems
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and personnel information with discretion
  • Flexibility to work varied hours as needed
  • Valid Vermont driver’s license with a good driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Coursework or experience in office procedures and customer service
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RecTrac or similar systems
  • Experience in municipal government, parks and recreation, or a related field
  • Two years of experience in administrative support, recreation programming, or a similar role

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service in person, by phone, and via email
  • Assist with program and event registrations, facility passes, and memberships
  • Help customers navigate online registration systems and household accounts
  • Process daily transactions, receipts, and postal mail
  • Maintain accurate records and support administrative needs across the department
  • Work closely with the Business Coordinator to balance receipts and support financial tracking
  • Assist with recreation software updates, program listings, and registration setup
  • Manage facility schedules and support reservations
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors and contractors for park and facility needs
  • Communicate with internal departments, staff, and the public to ensure smooth coordination
  • Provide backup support for Business Coordinator duties as needed
