About The Position

Niigaaniin Services is looking for a Service Ontario Customer Service Representative to join their dynamic team. The team will be providing the full scope of programs and services under Service Ontario to community members residing on or traveling through the Robinson Huron Treaty Area. This role requires an out-of-the-box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social services.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and internet.
  • Experience driving a truck with an attached enclosed service trailer.
  • Must be able to become appointed as a Commissioner of Oaths.
  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.
  • Must be able to pass clear Security Clearance.
  • Driver’s license required and upon hiring a Drivers Abstract.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Financial record-keeping skills and ability to handle cash and carry out accurate financial transactions for community members.

  • Registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services (Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation).
  • Experience in customer service.
  • General knowledge of government services and programs at the municipal, provincial and federal level.
  • Access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty.
  • Knowledge of Service Ontario programs, services, processes, procedures, guidelines, and directives/legislation.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with community services networks and knowledge of Niigaaniin Services.

Responsibilities

  • Providing the full scope of programs and services under Service Ontario to community members residing on or traveling through the Robinson Huron Treaty Area.
  • Handling financial transactions for community members, including cash handling and accurate record-keeping.
  • Communicating effectively with community members, listening actively, and being empathetic, sensitive, and patient.
  • Resolving difficult situations in a composed, understanding, and respectful manner.
  • Adapting to meet the needs of a broad, diverse community base.
  • Ensuring forms are completed fully and accurately, and that service and transaction requirements are met.
  • Gathering information and using research methods to identify, source, and compile information for customers.
  • Maintaining and organizing data and information in databases, including stock management.
  • Implementing analytical methods to probe for information, determine customer objectives, and assess situations to determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Detecting incidents of suspected fraud or other irregularities.
  • Working independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and communities.
  • Driving a truck with an attached enclosed service trailer.
  • Becoming appointed as a Commissioner of Oaths.
  • Performing duties requiring a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check.
