General Summary Under general supervision of the division supervisor, the Customer Service Representative I (CSR I) performs a variety of administrative and customer service duties. This position serves as a primary point of contact for the public, providing information, processing payments, and directing inquiries. The CSR I supports various City functions, including utilities, permitting, and municipal court services, and is responsible for maintaining accurate records, responding to customer concerns, and supporting internal departments. The position does not supervise other employees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two (2) years of general office, customer service, and cash handling experience
  • Knowledge of City policies, procedures, and general office practices.
  • Proficient in customer service, cashiering, and data entry tasks.
  • Ability to operate computers, office software, and 10-key entry tools.
  • Capable of accurately posting, reconciling, and preparing deposits.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult customer situations with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, confidentiality, dependability, and strong ethics.
  • Effective at organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.
  • Capable of performing all physical duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Valid State of Texas Driver License
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background, and MVR check
  • Must demonstrate both utility and permitting functions substantial knowledge in both areas within six (6) months and master both within one (1) year.

Responsibilities

  • Provides front-line customer service by responding to public inquiries, emails, and phone calls; directs visitors and callers to appropriate departments.
  • Interprets and explains City policies, departmental guidelines, and ordinances to customers.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and welcoming front lobby; reports facility or maintenance concerns as needed.
  • Receives and processes payments; prepares receipts and balances cash drawers daily.
  • Prepares and reconciles daily bank deposits.
  • Supports various departments by analyzing citation, utility account, or permit application information as needed.
  • Handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion and accuracy.
  • Participates in cross-training for both utility and permitting functions; must demonstrate substantial knowledge in both areas within six (6) months and master both within one (1) year.
  • Maintains accurate records, databases, and filing systems.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required for all scheduled work hours.
  • May be required to perform duties outside of typical responsibilities during natural or manmade disasters to ensure the continuity of City operations and public safety.
