About The Position

Cradles to Crayons (C2C) was founded in 2002, with the mission of providing children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. C2C is at the cutting edge of volunteer management and has become the largest volunteer opportunity in the Boston area (where the organization is headquartered) providing unique, hands-on opportunities for people to help other people. How Our Model Works: Cradles to Crayons collects new and nearly new children's items through grassroots community drives and corporate donations. Donations are then processed and packaged by volunteers and are distributed to disadvantaged children through a collaborative network of social service agencies and school partners. C2C supplies these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need. Cradles to Crayons meets a critical need as many children 12 years old and younger live in poverty-stricken situations. Their living conditions can have negative effects on their self-esteem as poverty can lead to behavioral, social and emotional problems; their education as half of these children start 1st grade up to 2 years later than their peers; and their safety as they may live in more hazardous environments that can increase the risk of injury. While meeting the immediate needs of low-income children, Cradles to Crayons also sets a foundation for lasting change by providing meaningful, tangible volunteer opportunities to thousands of individuals and families and hundreds of corporations each year by organizing clothing collections, hosting a fundraiser, or working in The Giving Factory warehouse. Cradles to Crayons earned the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. Only 4% of charities rated have received at least six consecutive 4-star evaluations, differentiating C2C from its peers and indicating that C2C outperforms most other charities in America. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Customer Service Coordinator / Driver position is a member of the Operations team that is responsible for the collection of donated children’s items, and the maintenance of our inventory and facility. A large emphasis on this position is safe driving, and the timely pick-up and delivery of donated children’s items. The majority of this position’s time is spent in the community, organizing donations at various drop-off locations in and around the Boston area, where there is regular interaction with volunteers and donors while the duties of this job are carried out. This position is also responsible for unloading the donations and securing the items in the correct space in the warehouse for storage. This position has additional responsibilities in the warehouse to assist facilitate the movement of inventory through the warehouse and to maintain the facility.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record
  • Medical clearance for truck and van operation required
  • Previous delivery/driving experience
  • Warehouse Experience
  • Customer service
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • A familiarity with Boston and surrounding area and able to operate a GPS system.
  • The ability to work occasional weekends is a must

Responsibilities

  • Model and lead a positive “One Cradles” culture, underpinned by Cradles’ Cultural Values and related behaviors.
  • Ensure the safe pick-up and delivery of donations from locations in the Boston area to the Cradles to Crayons warehouse in Newton, MA.
  • Efficiently organize donations from drop-off location into the Cradles to Crayons truck.
  • Accurately track the amount and type of donations being loaded onto the truck and being placed within the warehouse.
  • Monitor the truck to ensure it is properly maintained and operational and report any issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with those who are donating items.
  • Ensure donations in the warehouse are stored properly and safely and that aisle ways are unobstructed and free of debris.
  • Manage the onsite collection bin, and organize and track donations that are received.
  • Work with the operations team to optimize space in the warehouse.
  • Perform custodial related activities in warehouse and surrounding grounds.
  • Assist with warehouse projects as needed.
  • Attend special events with the truck as needed.
  • Assist with Operations and Giving Factory production, when requested
  • Perform the duties needed to run the General Sort, Clothing Sort, Sizing, Outfits, Books, Shoes, SUP, Kitting and Toys stations.
  • Assist the Partner Relations team with the fulfilment of Everyday and Emergency Essentials requests
  • Perform other warehouse, inventory, receiving and distribution tasks as directed by the Manager on Duty
  • Receive gently used donations as outlined in the Material Handling Policy
  • Unload pallets of incoming donations and purchases from delivery trucks
  • Load vehicles designated for the delivery of Everyday and Emergency requests
  • Assist the Manager of Operations & Safety with the movement, organization and tracking of inventory
  • Assist the Director of Operations with the physical changes and upkeep needed to create and maintain a socially-distant Giving Factory
  • Lead volunteers
  • Perform cleaning and sanitizing duties as directed
  • Other duties as assigned
