About The Position

This is clerical work involved with receiving cash and performing related duties. The incumbent is responsible for receiving cash, checks, credit cards, and other forms of payment for utility bills or other fees; counting money and making change; issuing receipts and maintaining routine records. Work is performed under the supervision of the Customer Service Manager. Cash handling is verified and balanced daily by reconciliation of monies/receipts and periodic audits.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of cashiering.
  • Knowledge of computer-generated billing practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of math, English, and arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods, equipment with particular reference to receiving and accounting for the receipt of cash.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, coworkers, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain a varied and complex record system and to prepare reports from such records.
  • Ability to converse with other, both in person and by telephone, with poise, tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to handle routine assignments without constant supervision and make minor decisions in accordance with established procedures.
  • High School graduate or equivalent diploma is required supplemented by advanced courses in accounting/bookkeeping.
  • Three years of progressively responsible account-keeping and/or utility billing experience is required.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Operator's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Visual Acuity: Have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles, include close vision, distant vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken English word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Ability to communicate verbally both in person and over the phone.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, counts, balances, and reports cash and negotiable instruments for payment of bills, fines, and fees.
  • Receipts bills on Cash Receipts & Customer Service module of SunGard Public Sector software.
  • Prepares, checks, and maintains logs, receipts, files, records, and reports as instructed.
  • Makes daily settlement of monies.
  • Checks and balances cash and negotiable instruments against receipted copies of bills and register tapes.
  • Posts to daily Cash Receipts software.
  • Operates cash receipts computer module, validating machine, adding machine, copier, fax machine, and other office equipment.
  • Processes mail payments coming into the City.
  • Receives phone calls or persons at Cashier window, determines nature of their business, and makes proper disposition.
  • Performs related clerical tasks as assigned by manager.
  • Types and operates other standard office equipment as required including data entry into computer.
  • Performs related work as required or other duties as assigned.
