About The Position

This position includes duties as a Customer Access Representative and a Medical Assistant-in-Training. As a Customer Access Representative, it provides receptionist duties for the center and performs a variety of clerical duties including patient appointments and registration, management of patient flow, billing, and payment collections. As a Medical Assistant-in-Training, it assists the professional and para-professional staff in rendering health care. Must be enrolled in the PMS internal Medical Assistant training program for promotion to Medical Assistant II and complete the program within one year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Six months experience in healthcare setting OR one year administrative and/or customer service background.
  • Computer experience required; ability to work with Windows-based programs strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing aide duties preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Navajo desired.
  • If the program is not completed successfully within one year, the employee will be demoted to Customer Access Representative & Medical Assistant I job title and compensation level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or training in customer service industry preferred.
  • Experience in medical billing preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish / English or Navajo / English preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Navajo desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provides receptionist duties for the center.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties including patient appointments and registration, management of patient flow, billing, and payment collections.
  • Assists the professional and para-professional staff in rendering health care.
  • Must be enrolled in the PMS internal Medical Assistant training program for promotion to Medical Assistant II and complete the program within one year.
  • Must be deemed competent in phlebotomy within 120 days of hire.
  • If required to assist with state Centennial Care / Medicaid enrollment and/or NM Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) enrollment, must successfully complete required state and federal health insurance enrollment assistance training programs and obtain related certifications before providing enrollment services and maintain current while required to provide these services.
  • Have or be able to obtain First Aid and BLS/CPR certification within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must comply with required testing and immunizations (TB, Hepatitis B, Tdap, MMR, and Varicella).
  • Influenza vaccines will be required according to dates set by the CDC and NMDOH.
  • If required to assist with NM Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) enrollment, this position requires successful completion of a Criminal Records Check conducted by the NM Insurance Exchange as a part of their assistor’s application process, prior to providing these services.
