About The Position

Unity School is seeking a full-time Custodian to maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the school facilities. This role is essential for ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. The position involves a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and organizational tasks, with specific leadership responsibilities for the Lead Custodian role. Physical presence is a requirement for this job.

Responsibilities

Prepares school for opening and closing; locks/unlocks school gates, turns on/off lights and turns on/off alarms; checks and locks/unlocks school doors, polices school grounds and checks all restrooms.
Collects and empties trash throughout the school; dust mops office and/or vacuums or spot mops.
Dust mops and spot mops lobbies and vacuums entrance mat; mops and buffs front foyer, lounge area, classrooms, hallways, and other areas requiring this action.
Maintains all restrooms by disinfecting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning commodes and sinks, emptying trash, and wiping down all surfaces in order to prevent the spread of illness; restocks restroom supplies as needed.
Prepares dining areas and empties trash during and after breakfast and lunch; cleans cafeteria/dining area after breakfast and lunch.
Surveys school grounds for trash and vandalism; identifies areas needing maintenance attention or that may be a safety issue.
Checks the school interior and exterior walls for marks/vandalism and cleans as needed.
Checks daily with teachers regarding maintenance needs in the classrooms; prepares request for maintenance work orders; assists maintenance personnel with repairs as needed.
Sets up furniture and boards for classrooms; prepares cafeteria and gymnasium for school programs (chairs, tables, podium, etc.).
Cleans up areas where students have become ill and transfers biohazard material for disposal according to district policy and standard operating procedures.
Changes light bulbs and replaces ceiling tile as needed; moves desks, tables, chairs, and filing cabinets.
Strips, seals, and buffs floors throughout the school; shampoos carpets; cleans windows and window blinds.
Removes/salts snow and ice located on walkways during winter months.
Maintains an organized and clean custodial storage room.
Supervises school custodians, checks and approves timesheets, and communicates information regularly. (Lead Custodian).
Prepares orders for custodial supplies; checks delivery of supplies for accuracy; may pick up supplies from other locations. (Lead Custodian)
Trains new assigned custodial personnel in cleaning procedures, operation of assigned equipment, and time keeping procedures. (Lead Custodian)
Schedules staff assignments during breaks to ensure major cleaning, moving, and organization tasks are completed before students return. (Lead Custodian).
