About The Position

Responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security of assigned work areas. Work may be at assigned building(s) or on assigned specialty crews as directed.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of two years custodial experience.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Medic First Aid Card.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
  • Frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand.
  • Will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Continuously uses hand strength to push, pull and grasp tools.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb and work on ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemical safety and use, experience with floor finishing and waxing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of custodial duties as directed, including cleaning and minor maintenance and repair.
  • Make reports of maintenance and repair needs to the building principal and Maintenance Supervisor as required.
  • Lock and secure doors, windows, and turn off lights.
  • Report fire and safety hazards and emergency maintenance concerns to the building principal and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Dress, speak, and act in a responsible manner with respect to the job assignment.
  • Handle hazardous wastes and chemicals according to laws, district procedures, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Monitor inventories or required supplies and coordinate as directed to assure adequate quantities are on hand to perform assigned duties.
  • Facilitate pre-approved after-hour uses of facilities.
  • Keep outside walkways free from leaves and debris.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
