About The Position

The Custodian position at West Irvine is responsible for providing students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient environment for learning, playing, and development. This role supports the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System. Key duties include maintaining the school building and grounds, performing various cleaning tasks, conducting minor repairs, and ensuring the general security and safety of the premises.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned.

Responsibilities

Cleans and maintains all boilers and other major equipment.
Participates in necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general mechanical areas.
Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
Assists general maintenance technicians in remodeling and renovation work.
Assists in snow removal.
Sweeps classrooms/corridors daily and dusts furniture.
Scrubs, hoses down, mops and disinfects restrooms daily and cleans all fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
Cleans windows inside and out at least twice a year, and more frequently if needed.
Keeps grounds free from rubbish and trash.
Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by Principal.
Requisitions and receives supplies and equipment, and maintains necessary inventories.
Assumes responsibility for the general security and safety of the building.
Makes building repairs that he/she is capable of.
Reports immediately to the Principal any damage to school property.
Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.
Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the principal afar enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time not to hinder the custodian in his/her duties.
Conducts an on-going program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair.
Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.
Completes all tasks in shortest possible time.
Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
Performs other duties that may be assigned.
